Forensic genetics
A connected DNA-analysis sequence from specimen to fragment analysis
SYNTOL provides reagents and instrument solutions for the principal stages of forensic DNA analysis: specimen collection and storage, DNA extraction, assessment of human DNA quantity and quality, STR amplification, and capillary electrophoresis.
This page helps laboratories select compatible products for biological samples and trace evidence. It describes SYNTOL laboratory methods and products, but does not claim that SYNTOL performs forensic casework, manages chain of custody, or issues expert legal conclusions.
Laboratory tasks
- collect and store biological samples;
- extract DNA manually or on a documented automated platform;
- process bone and tooth material and specific difficult trace-evidence carriers;
- assess the presence and quantity of human DNA, degradation, and sex before STR analysis;
- perform multiplex STR amplification within the intended use of the kit;
- separate labelled fragments by capillary electrophoresis;
- select polymers, size standards, formamide, calibration reagents, and a compatible instrument platform.
Main analytical stages
Each stage shows its analytical role and links only to products or resources already present in the current Solution model.
Collection and storage
BioSave Tube is intended for buccal epithelial samples; BioCard supports collection, storage, and transport of blood or saliva.
DNA extraction
M-Sorb is the general magnetic-particle option; M-Sorb-Bone and OssisTrace address documented bone/tooth and difficult-sample applications. Some models support AutoMate Express or COLIBRI automation.
Human-DNA assessment
RealQuant H3 assesses the presence and quantity of human DNA, degradation, and sex; inhibitor information should follow the wording of the current instructions.
STR analysis
Human ID (HG-M31) uses multiplex amplification of 31 STR loci followed by capillary electrophoresis.
Fragment analysis
Nanofor 05 and compatible consumables can be used for separation and analysis of labelled fragments.
Products for key stages
Key products include Human ID (HG-M31), the RealQuant H3 family, M-Sorb, M-Sorb-Bone, OssisTrace, BioSave Tube, BioCard, and Nanofor 05. GenPrep, automated extraction configurations, polymers, size standards, formamide, and calibration reagents provide supporting options. Only current products are included.

The principal methods are magnetic DNA extraction, nucleic-acid extraction automation, real-time PCR assessment of human DNA, multiplex STR PCR, and capillary electrophoresis. Sanger sequencing may support separate tasks but is not a required stage of STR analysis.
The portfolio covers specimen collection and storage, magnetic DNA extraction, real-time PCR assessment of human DNA, STR amplification, and capillary electrophoresis. Laboratories can therefore select reagents and equipment across successive analytical stages while keeping the intended use of each product explicit.
