SYNTOL / SOLUTION

Respiratory infections

Molecular solutions for the currently evidenced scope

The current SYNTOL portfolio in this area is focused on SARS-CoV-2 RNA detection and combined detection of SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A and Influenza B. The laboratory sequence can include specimen handling, RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, a separate RT-LAMP approach, and supplementary S-gene sequencing.

For laboratories performing molecular testing of respiratory viruses

This page helps laboratories choose a method and product for a defined task without implying universal coverage of respiratory infections. The currently evidenced scope is SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV-2 + Influenza A/B.

LABORATORY PROBLEM

Laboratory tasks

  • transport and store clinical material covered by the assay;
  • extract RNA manually or using documented automation;
  • detect SARS-CoV-2 RNA by RT-qPCR;
  • perform combined detection of SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza A/B;
  • use RT-LAMP for SARS-CoV-2 where supported by the assay;
  • perform amplification and Sanger sequencing of the S gene for the relevant specialized task.

Specimen handling

A transport medium can support relevant clinical-material applications.

02

RNA extraction

M-Sorb-NA supports magnetic RNA extraction in manual and documented automated configurations.

03

Primary detection

The SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR family addresses SARS-CoV-2 detection, while CoV-2-FluA/B-RT-PCR addresses the combined SARS-CoV-2 + Influenza A/B task.

Separate analytical paths
A

Alternative method

KoviGen-LAMP-01 provides a separate RT-LAMP approach to SARS-CoV-2 RNA detection.

B

Supplementary analysis

AmpliSeng S-gene SARS-CoV-2 supports S-gene amplification and sequencing and is not a replacement for the primary detection stage.

Methods

RT-qPCR is the principal method on this page. RT-LAMP is a separate isothermal approach for a specific product, while Sanger sequencing is an additional method for the separate S-gene analysis task.

Products and assays

Products for key stages

The three principal tasks are SARS-CoV-2 detection by RT-qPCR, combined SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza A/B detection, and a dedicated RT-LAMP approach. RNA extraction, transport medium, and Sanger sequencing support these analytical routes.
