Species identification and authenticity of food, raw materials and feed
Molecular verification of species composition
SYNTOL solutions can detect and differentiate species-specific DNA in food products, raw materials, and feed. Real-time PCR is the principal method; some applications use multiplex panels, semiquantitative assessment, or sequencing.
This page helps laboratories select an analysis by product type and target species, from rapid multi-species screening to confirmation of a specific species target. Detection of undeclared DNA can support authenticity control, but it is not in itself a legal determination of adulteration or fraud.
Laboratory tasks
- extract DNA from food products, raw materials, or feed;
- screen several common species;
- detect DNA from a specific species;
- differentiate multiple species in one multiplex assay;
- use dedicated panels for fish products;
- perform semiquantitative assessment only where specified by the assay;
- use DNA sequencing for specialized taxonomic-identification tasks;
- verify compatibility and access current documentation.
How the analysis is structured
DNA extraction
Sorb-GMO-A, Sorb-GMO-B, and documented automated variants can be used for relevant food and feed matrices.
Select the analytical task
Multi-species screening, confirmation of one species, or multiplex differentiation.
Real-time PCR
Ident RT assays detect species-specific DNA targets; the exact species set is defined by the product.
Additional assessment
Semiquantitative analysis is used only where included in the intended use of the assay.
Sequencing
AS-001/AS-002 and Sanger sequencing can support specialized taxonomic-identification tasks.
The portfolio includes single-species assays and multiplex systems for meat and fish products. Combined with DNA-extraction products and separate sequencing assays, it supports both routine species identification and specialized taxonomic-analysis tasks.
Real-time PCR is the primary method. DNA extraction is a separate sample-preparation stage. Sanger sequencing provides an additional method for specialized taxonomic-identification applications.
Products for key stages
Core solutions include Ident RT-Screen 4, single-species Ident RT assays, multiplex meat panels, salmonid and cod-family panels, and ID-221 for the semiquantitative application specified by that product. Sorb-GMO-A/B support DNA extraction, while AS-001/AS-002 belong to a separate sequencing-based approach.
