SYNTOL / SOLUTION

Animal genetic analysis, identification, and breeding traits

STR genotyping and defined genetic-marker analysis

The SYNTOL portfolio combines STR/microsatellite systems for genotyping and genetic passporting with assays for defined polymorphisms and markers. Results are expressed as genotype, STR profile, or marker result without automatically extending them into productivity or breeding-value claims.

Start with animal species and analytical task

The section combines STR genotyping and identification, genetic passporting and relatedness analysis where supported by the assay, and determination of defined SNPs, polymorphisms, and markers.

ANALYTICAL OBJECTIVE

Laboratory tasks

  • STR genotype cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, and sturgeon;
  • generate genetic profiles and perform passporting where supported by the assay's intended use;
  • determine defined polymorphisms in cattle;
  • analyze Pig Screen markers;
  • select a capillary-electrophoresis platform;
  • open the current instruction;
  • request fragment analysis and training.

Methods and technology support

01

Methods

qPCR is used for multiple polymorphism assays; STR systems and Pig Screen use multiplex PCR with capillary electrophoresis and fragment analysis.

Important considerations

Interpreting genetic results

A genetic marker, genotype, or STR profile is an analytical result and does not by itself guarantee phenotype, productivity, meat or milk quality, disease resistance, or breeding value.
